The Power to Thrive

This morning at 6:00 am we started our second Fragrance of Prayer Teleseminar, Thriving in 2012.  The excitement was electric as we reconnected and  I shared my teaching on “The Power to Thrive”.  We had a great discussion after the teaching about one of John Ortberg‘s quotes:

Whatever our season of life, it offers its own opportunities and challenges for spiritual growth.  Instead of wishing we were in another season, we ought to find out what this one offers.

To thrive is to:

  • prosper
  • be successful
  • have fortune
  • or flourish.

I am including just a few tidbits from the session this morning.  I am sure you will find them useful as you continue to pursue your spiritual growth in 2012.

What season of life are you in now?

What opportunities for spiritual growth do you have?

What challenges are you facing?

Do you have the necessary tools to find out what this season of your life has to offer?

All of the above questions will aid you in  determining your season and discovering the power necessary to thrive in that season.

We concluded our time this morning with prayer.  May I suggest that as you work through the questions you spend time praying about the answers.  You will certainly find wisdom and direction as you seek God.

God’s Love

The Word of God is filled with Scriptures about the love of God for His people.  In my book The Fragrance of Prayer: Time Alone in the Presence of God I wrote a prayer about God’s love.  I am including it today for you.  I pray it will be a blessing to you!

Join me in prayer:

Dear God, You are love and love comes from You.

Thank You Lord that You loved us so much that You gave Your only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and the sins of the world.

Christ died that whosoever would believe upon Him would be granted eternal life.

Because of Your great love for us we are admonished to love others.

Thank You for loving us and abiding in us.  Please Lord teach us daily to walk in love and let love be perfected in our lives.  Amen.

Thriving in 2012

I chose this picture for the cover of my Fragrance of Prayer Study Guide.  It represents thriving in the midst of unfavorable conditions.  The flower is not perfect.  It has some discoloration and the setting is marshy and rustic, however the color is vibrant and noticeable.  Our lives are often like this flower.  Sometimes we have to pause to see the beauty.  Occasionally we have to make a conscious decision to thrive in the midst of unfavorable and even unjust conditions.

I just completed a 5 week teleseminar.  It started in December and ended this morning.  The prayer classes were at 6:00 am (Eastern Time). Each person on the call made a conscious decision to work on their spiritual development.  They sacrificed sleep and invested in their future.  As a result they are reaping the benefits in their spheres of influence.

I enjoyed the lively conversations with the participants, powerful times of prayer and thought-provoking questions.  I want to share 5 lessons learned that led me to a decision about this year.  Those lessons are:

  1. It is essential to take time to spend with God.
  2. Distractions are a fact of life, how we manage them is the test of our character.
  3. In every situation we must choose whether we will continue to pursue our dreams or quit.  We have been given grace to continue however we must act upon that grace.
  4. It is imperative that we are aware of our emotions and the impact they are having on our thoughts and actions.
  5. Moving forward is mandatory, not optional.  We must decide to move forward in victory and not defeat.

As I spent time with the fabulous women on the call each week I realized how important an attitude of thriving in life is to success and daily joy.  I decided that my primary focus at the beginning of 2012 would be to purpose to thrive in 2012 and help others meet that goal.  If you would like to thrive in your life, especially your spiritual life go to http://thrivingin2012prayer.eventbrite.com.
